ENEMY AT THE GATES

Enemy at the Gates

(2001)

DON'T LISTEN TO THIS GUY. THIS IS A GREAT WAR MOVIE WITH BOB HOSKINS AS A KHRUSHEV LOOK ALIKE AND AMAZING COMBAT SCENES. TWO SOLDIERS SENT INTO COMBAT WITH ONLY ONE GUN. THE SECOND ONE IS TO PICK UP THE GUN WHEN THE OTHER FALLS. RETREATERS ARE SHOT. WAR IS HELL. THIS MOVIE IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS.
In the midst of the siege of Stalingrad, two snipers—a Red Army peasant from the Urals (Jude Law)
and an aristocratic Nazi deer hunter (Ed Harris)—stalk each other in the murky ruins. With Joseph Fiennes as a journalist who makes the Soviet sharpshooter a national hero and Rachel Weisz as a beautiful brave Red Army girl. Of course she's beautiful, otherwise who would fall in love with her. The composer James Horner does an imitation of Shostakovich, Next time use the original. Or or should I just fuck mytself.

— David Denby

WHY DIDN'T DAVID DENBY ENJOY THIS FILM. DOES HE GO TO TOO MANY MOVIES, OR DOES HE BELIEVE THE WORD CRITIC LITERALLY MEANS FAULT FINDER. IN ANY CASE, IT'S SAD.
